No. 63. Administering The Obligation

Decision: That the Junior Warden, in the absence of the Master and Senior Warden, is by virtue of his office the presiding officer of the lodge, and therefore has legal right to administer the obligation in conferring the degrees.

Decision: That the Master, by virtue of his prerogative, has legal right to call upon any Master Mason in good standing to assist him in any part of the work of conferring the degrees.

Decision: The Grand Master is without power to appoint an Acting Master of the lodge during the absence of the Master, so long as the Wardens or either of them were present in the lodge.

Decision: I held that a member of a subordinate lodge objecting to the passing of a candidate, as provided for in Article VII, Section 1.7.22. of the Constitution, must present with his objection, information or charges susceptible of investigation, and that on refusal to do so, the objection might properly be ignored.

No. 68. Authorized Funeral Ceremonies

Decision: I held that it was improper to permit an officer or member of any other organization (in this case a Commandery), at a funeral conducted by a lodge, to pronounce any portion of the burial service of such other organization, and that the service as laid down in "The Freemason Burial Office" should be strictly adhered to.

Decision: The exception noted in Article VII, Section 1.7.16. exempting members of the Armed Forces of the United States from the specific requirements of the Constitution as to the filing of petitions, does not apply to residents of Rhode Island.
